Lonnie Wheatley, WINCHESTER, Ind. (August 27, 2019) – After a top-ten Kokomo Sprint Car Smackdown finish and extending his streak of top-ten finishes in USAC Sprint Car competition to 21 in a row, Brady Bacon’s versatility will be on display this weekend.
Bacon will be in action in each of USAC’s premier divisions this weekend including Sprint Cars, Midgets and Silver Crown cars.
This weekend’s action begins with the Brandt River Town Showdown at Granite City, Illinois’ Tri-City Speedway on Friday night with Bacon continuing his USAC Sprint Car title pursuit aboard the Hoffman Racing / Mean Green No. 69 while also taking the wheel of an FMR No. 76m Midget for the night.
“We’ve always got around there well in a Midget,” Bacon says. “And we were going to be on the pole of the Sprint Car feature there the last time before it rained out.”
The two-time USAC Sprint Car champion enters the event sitting third in USAC National Sprint Car points.
Bacon will round out the weekend looking for a second consecutive USAC Silver Crown triumph on the dirt aboard the Klatt Enterprise No. 6 at the Du Quoin State Fairgrounds after topping the most recent event at Central Pennsylvania’s Williams Grove Speedway on June 14.
This weekend’s events in Illinois follow on the heels of four fast-paced nights at Kokomo Speedway that netted finishes of second in Wednesday’s #GYATK event and then runs of fourth and tenth in Kokomo Smackdown preliminary action before a seventh-place run in the Smackdown finale.
The runner-up finish in the non-points Wednesday card set the stage for a strong Smackdown and Bacon opened strong with the fourth-place run on Thursday. But a faltering engine in Friday qualifying proved too much to overcome.
“The event points we lost in qualifying when that happened cost us a lot,” Bacon says.
Narrowly missing the top-eight lock-in for Saturday, Bacon won his qualifier to secure the ninth starting position for the feature and worked his way to a seventh-place finish to extend his streak of top-ten finishes in USAC Sprint Car action to 21 in a row.
“The way the track was on Saturday night, there just wasn’t a whole lot we could do with it,” Bacon explains. “I felt like we were in good position early in the week, it’s unfortunate that we didn’t capitalize and get a better finish than seventh out of it.”
With Smackdown in the books, Bacon shifts his attention to Illinois and a mix of Sprint Cars, Midgets and Silver Crown this weekend.
