OSWEGO, NY (August 27, 2019) - Oswego Speedway Hall of Famer Doug Heveron will appear at the track’s 63rd annual International Classic this Friday through Sunday and is scheduled to sign autographs at the track on Friday and Saturday evening.
Heveron, a Liverpool native now living in Jensen Beach, Florida, is one of the most decorated Supermodified drivers of all-time having won thirty three main events at Oswego including back-to back Classics in ‘81 and ‘82 along with consecutive championships in that span.
Earlier this month, 17 year old Tyler Thompson broke Heveron’s long standing record to become the youngest Novelis Supermodified feature winner in Oswego history. The record had not been broken since Heveron’s first win on July 5, 1980 at age nineteen.
With Heveron making his first appearance at the track in over a decade, the two ‘young guns’ have agreed to sign autographs for the occasion. Heveron and Thompson will participate in a pair of merged sessions on Friday and Saturday.
The first autograph session of the weekend will take place on Friday, August 30 in the tiki bar following International Classic 200 time trials for the Supermodifieds. The final opportunity for autographs will be trackside during the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour session on Saturday.
After winning six Supermodified championships and nearly fifty races between 1978 and 1982, Heveron went IndyCar racing prior to competing with the NASCAR Winston Cup Series from 1983 to 1986. He was inducted into the Greater Syracuse Sports Hall of Fame in 2004.
Several ticket packages remain available for Bud Classic Weekend 63. To purchase, please contact the Oswego Speedway box office by phoning (315)-342-0646.
