Bacon is Smackdown Ready!

Lonnie Wheatley, WINCHESTER, Ind. (August 21, 2019) – Following a USAC Silver Crown rainout at Springfield, it’s back to the business of chasing down a third USAC Sprint Car title with this week’s Kokomo Sprint Car Smackdown.

The event begins with Wednesday night’s #GYATK special before evolving into three full nights of USAC points sanctioned events on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Bacon enters the prestigious event sitting second in USAC Sprint Car points after a superb Indiana Sprintweek in which Bacon and the Hoffman Racing / Mean Green No. 69 Sprint Car team extended their run of top-ten finishes in USAC Sprint Car action to 18 in a row.

“I feel good about our chances going into the weekend, if we can just keep putting up good finishes it gives us a chance to win this and maybe close in on the points chase,” Bacon commented.

Bacon has historically been among the frontrunners at the Kokomo Smackdown.

“We’re usually really good on the preliminary nights then somewhere around fifth or so on Saturday, we want to improve on that this time,” Bacon says. “There’s a lot that can happen over the course of the Smackdown, so you have to be ready for about anything.”

While “The Macho Man” has already piled up eight wins including four in USAC Sprint Car competition among 79 overall starts this season, only two of those starts have taken place at Indiana’s Kokomo Speedway.

“We’ve just done one local show there and then Sprintweek, we finished second in that and probably should have won it,” Bacon reflects.

After coming up just one position short at Kokomo during Sprintweek, Bacon looks to be at the top of the podium when the checkered flag flies on the Kokomo Smackdown this Saturday night.
