PETERSEN MEDIA: A busy weekend of racing saw Paul Nienhiser do a little bit of everything. Running the Sprint Invaders on Friday and Saturday night, Nienhiser would run a 305, and a non wing car on Saturday, and his 305 win would mark his 10th win of the season.
“It was a great weekend running a little bit of everything,” Nienhiser said. “We had some tough luck on Friday and Saturday, but Sunday was really good getting another win and running 4th in a non wing car.”
Running the Midland Performance No. 50 in Iowa on Friday and Saturday with the Sprint Invaders, Nienhiser would have some engine issues in his heat race on Friday as he slipped back to finish fifth.
As the team continued to work hard, Nienhiser would roll off the starting grid 15th in the feature event. With the engine still not where they wanted it, the slick surface played into their favor.
Working both the bottom as well as the cushion, Nienhiser would crack the Top-10 as he got into seventh. As laps clicked off, the bottom would go away and it would turn into a single file race on the cushion. Able to maintain, Nienhiser capped the night off in seventh.
Saturday night the team travelled to 34-Raceway, and after spending some time under the hood of the car, the engine was much better on this night. On a hooked up surface, Nienhiser would win his heat race off of the front row, before winning the Dash from his fourth starting position.
Pulling the six in the redraw, Neinhiser would continue to do what nobody else could and that was make speed above the ruts in turns one and two. Able to get into third, Nienhiser would adapt as the track started to change and soon began to work the middle groove.
Able to work into the lead, Nienhiser would then catch a rut that developed and hop his car while battling traffic. Thinking he would be okay, the landing would not go well, and it would result in Nienhiser taking a wild ride and ending his night.
Disappointed in the result, Nienhiser would return to Jacksonville Speedway on Sunday night for a little double duty action.
In the Caleb Wankel owned 305ci entry, the Chapin, IL driver would advance from his fifth starting position in his heat race to record a third place in his heat race and find himself fourth in nightly points.
When the 305ci feature came to life, Nienhiser would actually get off to a slow start as he faded back to sixth as he tried to navigate the familiar territory. As the track widened out, Nienhiser would move up top and rip the curb and find himself out front.
Once out front, Nienhiser would not be denied as he rode around the pick up his 10th feature event win of the season.
After a rocky debut in a non wing car last fall, Nienhiser was also in action with the non-wing class aboard his CAM2 No. 9x machine.
Going from sixth to third in his heat, Nienhiser would find himself in the second row for the feature event as he looked to simply make laps and acclimate to the non wing car.
Running third in the feature, Nienhiser was pleased with how he felt as he focused on hitting his marks though was able to keep pace with the lead duo.
As the laps clicked off and Nienhiser continued to settle in and get a little more sporty, brake issues would arise and hamper him. Losing a position late, Nienhiser still hung on to finish fourth in the ‘A’.
“I hated to crash out of the lead on Saturday,” Nienhise said. “Scott and his guys worked so hard and I really wanted to get them a win. Sunday in Jacksonville, IL was a ton of fun, and it’s great to get another win, and make some good laps in a non wing car.”
Nienhiser would like to thank CAM2 Blue Blood Racing Oil, Mason Sound, Innovative Design, Bradshaw Custom Pumping, Wessler Bros. Agency, Bob Hawks Auto Body, Littleton Storm & Timber, Fierce Herbicide, Sunstoppers Window Tinting, Engler Machine and Tool, FK Indy, Rider Racing Engines, Kaeding Performance, Smith Titanium Products, Vortex Wings, Signature Signs and Design, and Team Simpson for their continued support.
