Gregg Grabs Fifth

Saturday night in Watsonville, CA, Andy Gregg turned in his strongest performance of the young Golden State King of the West Series season as he finished fifth aboard his Bret Ervin Racing/7 Industries/Eagle No.53.

To kick off the night, Gregg timed in his Wheel Vintiques/Ervin Sales Group/College Cyclery entry in with the 13th quickest lap of night, giving him the pole for heat race number one.

In his heat Gregg withstood two red flags, and two double file restarts to pick up the win and earn a spot in the nights dash.

After starting fourth in the dash, Gregg quickly got to the top of the track to move into the third spot and pressure the lead duo of B. Kaeding and T. Kaeding. As the field got strung out , Gregg finished third giving him the third starting spot in the feature event aboard The Hot Rod Shop/King Racing Products/GUTS sprinter.

Immediately following the dash, the Bret Ervin Racing crew was forced to change motors, and did so in a very timely manner, and was able to make the call for the feature.

“I started losing oil pressure at the end of the dash, and my guys did a great job of changing motors during the ‘B’,” said Gregg.

Rolling out in the third starting spot in the feature, the lightning fast racing surface saw exciting racing as the leaders quickly closed on the tail of the field. As Gregg fell back to sixth he quickly began working on Brent Bjork for the fifth spot.

As the race wore on and saw several late stoppages, Gregg utilized the final double file restart with five laps to go to grab the spot from Bjork, and finish the race battling Brent Kaeding for the fourth spot.

“We really had a pretty good night tonight,” said Gregg. “We qualified better then last week and put us in good position to get in the dash and start up front.”

Up next for the Bret Ervin Racing team will be round four of the KWS at Marysville Raceway Park in Marysville, CA.
