Inside Line Promotions – BURLINGTON, Iowa (April 25) – Danny Lasoski survived the weather, the ruts and the 38 other competitors.
The patient veteran outlasted the field to claim the Midwest Open Wheel Association’s inaugural feature on Saturday at 34 Raceway in Burlington, Iowa.
Despite a solid sprinkle that forced three rain delays and kept everything muddy, Lasoski stayed up front from qualifying on. And that proved valuable as ruts developed quickly on the heavy track, which knocked around most of the drivers on the 3/8th-mile oval.
“We had a really, really good race car,” Lasoski said. “I was running it above the holes. I was taking no chances around lapped cars. Some of the lapped cars were like darts with no feathers out there.”
Lasoski was the quickest in qualifying and then drove from sixth to fourth in his heat race, which locked him into the 30-lap feature and earned him a spot in the dash. However, the persistent drops forced the cancellation of the dash and Lasoski lined up second in the main event.
He shot to the lead on the start and led all but two laps to claim his third victory of the season.
“When we get to the race track, we think we can win every race,” he said. “No matter if we’re running a 360 (engine), a 410 or a foot race, we’re there to win.”
Lasoski is scheduled to race this Saturday in the season-opening event at the famed Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, where he’s the winningest driver ever.
Lasoski has 93 career feature wins – 33 more than anyone else – and has earned eight 410 track championships. He’s also won the season opener four times, most recently in 2003.
“Knoxville is home for me,” Lasoski said. “We love the race track, fans and the facility. When you go there, you race the best of the best.”
