Inside Line Promotions – HAMLIN, Pa. (Aug. 16, 2019) – Joey Amantea competed in two different types of race cars last Saturday at Hamlin Speedway, where he highlighted the night with a podium finish during micro sprint action.

The weekend kicked off with a visit to Linda’s Speedway in Jonestown, Pa., last Friday night for wingless 600cc micro sprint competition. Amantea began his night by maneuvering from seventh to third in a heat race, qualifying him for the feature redraw.

He started the feature on the outside of the front row after drawing the No. 2. With a car set up to be better later in the race, Amantea slipped backwards early. While he was settling in, he missed his mark on a restart and got turned around. As a result, the car obtained a lot of damage and ended his night with a DNF.

“We set the car up to come in late and early on we were really struggling to hang on,” he said. “I made a mistake on a restart and I got looped around. We just got clobbered. Not only did I cost us a good run, but I made for a lot of work for my guys and I felt awful about it.”

Next up was a trip to Hamlin Speedway on Saturday when Amantea drove a Stage 1 Modified for the first time ever in addition to his regular wingless 600cc duties.

Amantea charged from sixth to win a micro sprint heat race. He then drew the second starting position for the main event before ending the race third, marking his 12th top five of the season.

“The car was really fast from the very beginning,” he said. “My guys worked hard after the wreck at Linda’s to get us there and we decided to try something new set-up wise. It paid off and we were really good.”

In Stage One Modified action, Amantea powered from fifth to third place in a heat race. With it being his first time behind the wheel of this type of car, Amantea took a few laps to get going after starting the feature fifth. He was running inside the top five when he got turned around and was forced to the rear. However, Amantea advanced all the way back to the sixth position by the time the checkered flag was waved.

“Everyone said for my first time in one that I did extremely well,” he said. “I think we’re going to run these things a few more times this season and see what we can learn for the future. I was really happy with sixth.”
