Inside Line Promotions – ERIE, Pa. (Aug. 14, 2019) – Joe Trenca ventured to a pair of Western Pennsylvania ovals last weekend for the first time since 2016.
Trenca and the Patriot Sprint Tour kicked off a doubleheader on Saturday at Mercer Raceway in Mercer, where the Mucci Motorsports driver advanced from third to second place in a heat race and he won the dash before ending the night 14th in the A Main.
“We had a solid start to the night, but we needed to win the heat to make the feature redraw,” he said. “It was good to win the dash and we started the feature in the top 10, but we didn’t get the end result that we wanted.”
Trenca rebounded on Sunday at Eriez Speedway, where he took advantage of a favorable draw by winning a heat race from the pole. That earned a spot into the feature redraw and he lined up on the outside of the front row for the main event.
“We had a good race and maintained a podium,” he said. “We ended up losing one position and you never want to back up, but you can’t be too disappointed whenever you end the night on the podium.”
Trenca’s third-place outing was his career-best run at the track.
The next Patriot Sprint Tour race is Aug. 24 at Woodhull Raceway in Woodhull, N.Y. Trenca enters the event ranked second in the Patriot Sprint Tour championship standings – only 38 points out of the lead.
