Wilson Finds Confidence During Frustrating Knoxville Nationals Week

Inside Line Promotions – KNOXVILLE, Iowa (Aug. 12, 2019) – Greg Wilson turned the corner on his feelings about Knoxville Raceway after a week spent learning throughout the 59th annual NOS Energy Drink Knoxville Nationals presented by Casey’s General Stores.

The results weren’t what Wilson expects out of his Hercules Tires, DNC Hydraulics, Ohio Logistics and Gear Off Road sponsored team. However, the progress made and comfort found by the end of the sport’s biggest race of the season was eye opening.

“I was pretty disappointed leading into the 410 week,” he said. “I didn’t feel like we had improved. A couple of text messages and a phone call later I got Andy Potter to help me for the week.

“We buried ourselves in qualifying (during the preliminary night), but we gained on it and we found some speed. His help with what the car was doing and how I was feeling correlated. We think alike. We came back and talked on Friday and were a lot better.

“We’re changing cars and changing shock packages. It’s been a change. This place has always been a thorn in our side and we’ve never been very good. I was telling my wife early in the week I don’t care if I ever come back. You spend a lot of money to come to this race. We just weren’t getting it. I feel like if we came back we’d be in a lot better shape to start off with, especially if I can bring someone like Andy Potter with me.”

Wilson returns to Ollie’s Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions action this Friday at I-96 Speedway in Lake Odessa, Mich., before a show on Saturday at Plymouth Speedway in Plymouth, Ind.

He ranks sixth in the championship standings with 16 All Star races on tap during the next month.
