The 2019 racing season at Park Jefferson Speedway came to a close on Saturday night as the six divisions saw champions crowned on an exciting race night sponsored by IState Truck Centers and Liberty National Bank.
The highlight of the night was the Pizza Ranch of Akron Sport Modifieds as Cody Thompson went for win number 10, with a $600 bounty on his head. Thompson, who was able to run the year undefeated save the first night. He had to take on both Josh Blom and hold off Jake Sachau to get the win. Blom had a strong second and Sachau third. Heats went to Luke Jackson and Cade Richards.
It was Chris Mills picking p the win form the pole in the 20 lapper in the Artworks Graphics Modifieds. Mills continues to be be feast or famine at Park but even a late race caution would not allow Mapleton, Iowa's Jim Thies the chance to gain on him. Jeff Berens finished a strong third with Bob Moore winning the championship by a single point over Sean Barragan. Heats went to Berens and Mills.
O'Neil Nebraska's Danny Nekolite has been knocking on the door all season at Park Jefferson and finally got it done on the last night of 2019. Nekolite took the 22D machine and worked around the front row with ease and then held off Mike Moore and 2019 and three time champion Colin Smith for the victory in the Stevenson Hardware IMCA RACESaver Sprint Cars.
It was Jason Ward holding off 2019 IMCA J&J Fitting Stock Car Track Champion Ryan Harris in a top class race to take the checkered flag. Both drivers battled hard all season and it was Ward winning the battle and Harris the war. Aaron Cain was third. Heats went to Jason Ward and Aaron Cain.
It was John Cain again picking up the checkered flags at Park Jefferson winning for his third time this year to tie Zeppy Ankrum. Cain was able to take the win over a strong run from Jeremy Hoskinson and Ankrum with heats going to Kevin Bruck and Aaron Shearn. Ankrum picked up a popular championship in the IMCA Hobby Stock division.
Danny Vanderveen proved that persistance pays off as he once again took his second win in the final night of the season. Vanderveen has been ever improving all season, and was able to hold off Brian Long and Connor Brown. It was Jarad Gross of Spencer picking up the track championship in the IMCA Sport Compacts.
The Park Jefferson Speedway's racing season is in the books. The 2020 season will kick off on April 17th &18th with the IMCA De-froster.
