Inside Line Promotions – MACON, Ill. (July 29, 2019) – Kyle Schuett scored a podium finish in his micro sprint and a top-10 result with the Built Ford Tough MOWA Sprint Car Series to highlight two nights of racing last weekend.
A night after maneuvering to a seventh-place result at Jacksonville Speedway in Jacksonville, Ill., Schuett double-classed at Macon Speedway on Saturday and got his evening off to a solid start with heat race wins in both of his cars, including his first victory in a sprint car.
“I started on the pole of the micro heat and won that pretty handily,” he said. “In the sprint car heat, I started second and went right to the top and made 10 clean laps. Zach Daum challenged me, but he raced me clean and I appreciated that.”
Schuett took the green flag in the micro feature from the fourth starting spot.
“We had a great race for second through fourth for most of the race with lots of slide jobs,” he said. “I was in second with about four laps to go when my car started shutting off in every corner because it was running out of fuel. It completely ran out coming out of the last corner. I got passed by one car while I coasted to the finish line and finished third.”
Schuett made the redraw for the sprint car feature and pulled the sixth starting spot.
“I was able to move up to fourth and we were all running bumper to bumper,” he said. “I made a slight mistake and the guy behind me ended up clipping my left rear and bumper, spinning us both around and collecting several other cars. I would say it was probably a bit of both of our faults. We were both going for the same piece of real estate on the track. It was just one of those racing deals.”
Schuett restarted the race at the rear of the field around 20th.
“I was able to move up after the restart and made it to 12th with about four laps to go,” he said. “Then a guy ahead of us did a 360 in the middle of the track and they didn’t throw the caution. It bottled up a bunch of us behind him and I clipped the guy in front of me and flipped, ending our night.”
Schuett’s car sustained heavy damage and will keep him from a highly anticipated race this weekend.
“We tore up a lot of stuff and bent the frame,” he said. “It was especially disappointing because now we won’t be able to race with the Outlaws in Pevely this week, which was a race we had really looked forward to.
“Unfortunately, I’m working out of town every night this week and we just don’t have the time to repair the car and do it right. I’m not going to race a car that’s less than 100 percent against the Outlaws.”
Schuett will be idle from racing the next two weekends before returning to competition with the Bumper to Bumper IRA Outlaw Sprint Series Aug. 17 at Wilmot Raceway in Wilmot, Wis., and Aug. 18 at Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie, Wis.
