BELLEVILLE, ILL. (July 22, 2019) – Fans of Belle-Clair Speedway in Belleville, Ill. will receive the best of both worlds this Friday, July 26 as the POWRi Lucas Oil National Midgets and the POWRi Lucas Oil WAR Sprints storm into town for an epic evening together atop the 1/5th-mile surface.
A rare occasion, Friday’s double date will mark only the second event of the 2019 season in which POWRi’s National Midgets and WAR Sprints come together to compete at the same track on the same night. Previously, the midgets and sprints tackled Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Mo. together in May when Logan Seavey (midgets) and Kory Schudy (sprints) topped feature action.
Leading into the weekend, Jesse Colwell of Red Bluff, Calif. sits atop the POWRi National Midget point standings with Jake Neuman (-100), Zach Daum (-100), Logan Seavey (-150), Ace McCarthy (-380), Holley Hollan (-480), Tucker Klaasmeyer (-630), Daison Pursley (-630), Cannon McIntosh (-710) and Tanner Carrick (-1,010) trailing.
Of those expected to be in attendance, Tanner Thorson of Minden, Nev. leads the way with the most Belle-Clair Speedway triumphs amongst active competitors with four wins to his name. Tyler Thomas of Collinsville, Okla. and Austin Brown of Millstadt, Ill. have each nailed down a trio of “Belle-Vegas” victories in their careers. Both Logan Seavey of Sutter, Calif. and Tucker Klaasmeyer of Paola, Kans. broke through for their first-career Belleville wins in 2018 and look for a second score on Friday.
For the POWRi WAR Sprints, the championship chase is tighter than ever. In his rookie season, Kory Schudy of Springfield, Mo. holds the points lead ahead of Riley Kreisel (-6), Korey Weyant (-31), Wesley Smith (-89), Jack Wagner (-180), Slater Helt (-183), Katlynn Leer (-214), Braydon Cromwell (-314), Joe B. Miller (-396), and Mitchell Davis (-442).
Making their third appearance in league history at the Belleville, Ill. facility, the only previous WAR events at Belle-Clair saw Joe B. Miller of Millersville, Mo. win the April 2016 show, while Zach Daum of Pocahontas, Ill. topped the July 2018 event.
On Friday at Belle-Clair, the pit gates will open at 3:00 PM with the spectator gates set to open at 5:00 PM. On-track action will begin at 6:00 PM with hot laps and racing to follow. General admission is $20 with kids 12 & under getting in FREE with an adult.
