Inside Line Promotions – BILLINGS, Mont. (July 23, 2019) – Jordon Mallett continued a successful visit to the state of Montana by earning a pair of top-10 finishes during two nights of racing with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour last weekend at Big Sky Speedway.

Mallett picked up a win earlier this month at the track while competing with the ASCS Frontier Region and his momentum continued on Friday. He rallied from eighth to fifth place in a heat race before lining up 12th in the A Main.

“There wasn’t a ton of room to make up ground in the heat race so we pretty much did what we could to get in the show and go from there,” he said. “But I felt comfortable in the car and we ultimately were not too bad.”

Once he was able to settle in on the bottom of the speedway, Mallett began to steadily march his way forward during the feature. With the race going non-stop, Mallett advanced to an eighth-place finish – his 11th top 10 of the season.

“It was a completely different race track then what we saw when we last visited here,” he said. “It was a lot drier and there was really only a single lane. We had to hug the bottom to move forward and I just tried to capitalize on mistakes of other drivers and make up ground that way.”

The finale started with similar success as Mallett drew the fourth starting position in his heat and advanced two positions to finish second. Mallett made the feature redraw and pulled the No. 3 to line up on the inside of the second row.

“We were pretty good in the heat race,” he said. “I thought the track was a lot racier than Night 1 and it played into our hands.”

Mallett settled for a fifth-place finish after duking it out in a spirited battle throughout the second half of the main event.

“It took us a bit to get things going, but once the car got moving we were really good,” he said. “The race back there for fourth with those guys was a lot of fun and ultimately we just need to better earlier in the night if we want to contend for wins. But a top five is certainly nothing to be upset about.”

Next up for Mallett will be a first-ever trip to the Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, as he will compete against the regulars in 360 sprint car action this Saturday night.

With the 29th annual My Place Hotels 360 Knoxville Nationals presented by Great Southern Bank on tap Aug. 1-3, Mallett is hoping to gain some valuable experience at the famed speedway in preparation for the big event.

“The size and speed of Knoxville doesn’t really bother me, but ultimately I’m going to have to learn and figure out the track and what we need if we want to be competitive,” he said. “So we are going to go in there knowing we might struggle and try and refine things so we can have a good showing when the big money is on the line in the Nationals.

“These guys run this place weekly and it’s kind of like running with the PA Posse whereas you know these guys can race and compete and the deck is stacked before you ever take a lap. I’m looking forward to it and it’s going to be a cool feeling to say we raced at such a historic track.”
