Weather was hot and humid and the racing was even hotter. This years special $175K to win Kings Royal brought 62 of the nationals best sprint car drivers to the event. With a huge crowd of over 35,000 fans it was an event to be remembered.
The Knight before the Kings Royal on Friday, the JBMotorsports team faced some motor issues with the car over heating. Jim would finish 10th in the D main after some adjustments. The team worked Saturday morning to get the car right for the Kings Royal. We changed spark plugs and put in summer plugs. We adjusted jetting to match up to the humid air that was robbing the car of horsepower. After a disappointing time trial, Jim mentioned the car is choking on fuel at the starts and sounds bad. Crew Chief Bob Thompson was able to discover that we had a bad fuel filter. The filter was changed and early signs showed the car was back to life for the C main. Jim started 22nd and came on strong to finish 12th. Jim missed the cut to transfer onto the last chance showdown but the team felt better with a strong run at the end of the night. The weather and heat took a toll on the team and it was physically and mentally exhausting. Next up for the team is possible Iron Man 55 at Pevely and the Williams Grove National Open in the fall.
