Well hello, folks! We hadn't given up on writing these short race recaps. However, real life has surely intervened this Summer! Quite honestly, we are a bit amazed at how many actually read them! So rest assured. A weekend recap is coming at cha. Right. Now!
The POWRi Align Pro Lonestar 600s presented by No Limits Graphics invaded the grounds of Gulf Coast Speedway Saturday, July 20th. 18 Nonwing 600s, 8 Restrictors & 7 Jr.Sprints checked in for the nights action.
It was a humid, HOT one. The whole volunteer team of Gulf Coast Speedway had been working hard to get the facility in tip top shape. Track prepper & fellow racer, Jacob Lucas, had his work tripled in amount after some unexpected track prep delays & well... mother nature! The efforts did not go unnoticed!
Heat Winners-
Jr.Sprints- #1 heat- Dalten Maust #2 heat- Cash Lacombe
Restrictors- #1 heat- Kinsley Cook #2 heat- Jayton Brown
Nonwing 600s- #1 heat- Mike Walling #2 heat- Dustin Maxwell #3 heat- Jayton Brown
All racers transfer into A main events.
Jr.Sprints up first! Dalten Maust & Cash Lacombe lead the group around. Lacombe to the front. Maust 2nd. Beau Chapman in 3rd. They enter lap traffic. Maust catching up. Lacombe passes high. Maust goes low. Splitting 3 wide. Not once. But twice. Maust makes his move & door is closed by Cameron Spake. Maust holds 2nd. Chapman inching closer. Lacombe holds. Checkers wave & Cash Lacombe collects his very first win. Parks his #97 ride in the Driven Performance Midwest victory lane.
Restrictors! It's go time girls & boys! Jayton Brown & Hailey Taylor lead them to the green. Brown jumps to the front. Right off the corner Taylor spins. Saves it & keeps going. Kinsley Cook in 2nd. Dalton Wayne in 3rd. Brannon Lucas in 4th. A few cautions take place for spin outs & collections. Regroup. Brown still leads. Cook holds 2nd. Checkers are out. Jayton Brown parks his #11 ride in the Driven Performance Midwest victory lane!
Nonwing 600s in time to dance. Que the circus music. Who in the world put baby oil on the track? Kidding of course. But whew baby! 4 attempts made to start the race. Every attempt, a spin out. Single file start. Hello turn 1! Major crash. 1/2 the field collects in a big one. At this point, owner Scot Maust makes the call for a mandatory open red. Giving the drivers and crews the opportunity to switch it up for better control. As every car on the track was on the struggle bus. Lined back up, let's try it! Started with 25 laps. Then 20. Now 15. We GOT IT! Nick Groeneveld out front. Maverick Elkins in 2nd on his tail. Jacob Lucas joins. Slide job. Slide job. Look Ma! Another slide job. The top 3 are working it! Lucas makes the move. He gets it for the lead. Elkins & Groeneveld battle it out. Isaiah Garcia & Mike Walling enter the battle. The top 5 are rolling it out! You get 3rd. No, I get 3rd. They are sliding & trying every way to climb to the top. Lucas begins to pull with the lead. White flag waves. Elkins in 2nd. Walling is giving it his best shot. This track has these cars looking like rockets ready for lift off. Lucas prevails! Parking his #57 ride in the Driven Performance Midwest Victory lane!
As always, we can't thank each and everyone enough for joining along! Even thou it was hot. We all had a great time!
