A small field of wingless sprint cars made their way to El Paso County Raceway on July 13th for the next event on the POWRi Warrior Sprint Car Series schedule. The heat race was won by Frank Martinez of Parker, Colo. after pole sitter Jesse Fernandez also of Parker and Jeff Seesholtz of Colorado Springs collided on the opening lap collecting Mike Hathaway of Colorado Springs, Colorado in the carnage.
Martinez would start on the pole of the main and got the early jump on Fernandez coming to the green flag. But the show was all Hathaway as he rocketed to the lead exiting turn 2 and never looked back picking up his first main event win of the season.
"We tore up the front end a little in the heat, but Brad and the crew got it all fixed up and ready to go for the main. The track was real tacky so we left the setup alone for the main from our heat race setup and it paid off big time!"
Following Hathaway to the line was Martinez, Fernandez, Mark Bensenburg of Ellicott, Colorado and Jeff Seesholtz rounding out the top five.
Hathaway was awarded the Hard Charger award from Allstar Performance in addition to the winners share of the race purse.
"I really want to thank our sponsors and friends that have supported us this year, including QA1 shocks, Driven Oil, HMS Tire Treatments, and Allstar Performance. We unfortunately lost a cylinder late in the race, so we will have to dig in to the motor and see what happened" comment Hathaway in Victory lane.
