Man, was that a lot of work! After it was all said and done at Oildale Saturday night, we figured out there was a fundamental mistake in our setup, and it has been messing with us for most of the season!! Hopefully we will get things corrected in time for Santa Maria next weekend and get this show on the road!!! That said, I'd like to thank my wife, Tamara, for making a mountain of brisket sandwiches for the crew - they were wiped out along with the garden fresh watermelon (nature's sno-cone, as one of the guys declared!). I'd also like to thank my son, Alex, for coming out and helping with the film work and the general whatever else....and of course THANK YOU to Crewchief Todd for working his butt off all week and dealing with some of the driver's general mayhem in the shop. Also, a special thanks to Mark Ekberg for making the trip down to help us get this goofy car sorted out!
Overall, I can't complain about last weekend...we ran decent in hotlaps, got totally jacked in qualifying (something about group qualifying when the guy a full straight ahead of you isn't paying attention to the Raceciever OR the lights until you roll in underneath him...sheesh...and it made for a last place qualifying run...
We tried a few things for the heat race, but with the car's bad attitude already, it didn't help much - I can say I kept it out of the fence and all fours, and I'll leave it at that :D
For the Main, we threw the ENTIRE kitchen sink and the dishwasher at it and at least ended up with a reasonable car...although I was completely off the marks as far as driving goes...but, we rolled into the trailer in one piece and definitely live to fight another day!
Keep an eye out for the Lucas Oil, Stark Naked Motorsports 18S at Santa Maria on 7/27 and back at Hanford on 8/10 - see you then!!
