PETERSEN MEDIA: Following the USAC National Sprint Car Series to Tri-City Speedway over the weekend, Robert Ballou would drive from 10th to sixth on Friday night before rain capped Saturday’s event and cut the weekend short.
“Friday night I missed it a little, but we were still able to driver forward from 10th,” Ballou said. “Saturday night I felt like we were way better, but unfortunately the weather showed up and it ended the weekend early.”
Timing the Dickinson Farms/Abreu Vineyards/Deaton’s Waterfront Service No. 12 machine in 10th quickest in qualifying time trials, Ballou would pocket the win in heat race action to move directly into the feature event.
Tuning on his machine prior to the feature event, Ballou would later admit he just did not go for enough and get the balance right, and he got what he could out of it.
Taking the green flag from the 10th starting position, Ballou would carefully work his way forward as he set his sights on a spot inside the Top-5. Getting his elbows up, Ballou would find himself in fifth as the laps clicked down.
Looking like he would salvage the night in fifth, a last lap bobble would cost him a position, as he took the checkered flag in the sixth position.
“I didn’t quite put the super tune on for the feature event, and can only blame myself for that,” Ballou said with a smile. “We were okay, definitely could have been better. Kind of a bummer Saturday ended like it did, but hoping we feel just as good in our upcoming busy week.”
