Lonnie Wheatley, NIXA, Mo. (July 12, 2019) – After racing to a sixth-place finish in ASCS Warrior Region action at Lake Ozark Speedway last Saturday, Kyle Bellm will take on a pair of dirt tracks at opposite ends of the spectrum this weekend.
On Friday night, Bellm and the familiar No. 14k Sprint Car will take to the cozy confines of the ¼-mile Creek County Speedway near Tulsa in ASCS Sooner Region competition. Then, on Saturday, it’s off to the Knoxville Raceway’s, high-speed, spacious half-mile aboard the Tony Bartlett-owned entry that the Nixa shoe will wheel over the next several weekends.
“Clancy (Boots) introduced us to each other and it led to us getting this ride,” Bellm explains. “We’ll run it at Knoxville over the next three weekends to get ready for the 360 Nationals.”
This weekend’s pair of events was originally supposed to be three only to have the Thursday portion at Caney Valley Speedway washed out.
Bellm goes into the weekend after a strong run aboard the Smith Racing No. 86 Sprint Car last Saturday. After a fifth-place heat race run, Bellm climbed from tenth in the feature to capture sixth at the finish.
“We were just a little too tight in the heat race and that cost us some,” Bellm recalls. “Then we got up to fourth in the feature and then the nose wing flipped up. We were able to at least hold on to sixth.”
Bellm will look for more Creek County success on Friday before the process of getting dialed in for Knoxville’s 360 Nationals gets under way on Saturday.
