After a disappointing race last weekend at Perris Auto Speedway this past Saturday was a nice turn around of events for the Doug Fort Memorial at Santa Maria in the Jim Blakesley Racing / Don Blair Special #12B. After being out of a car for nearly 6 weeks I struggled a little to get smooth and knock the rust off the driver. Qualifying didn't go as planned and we timed in 16 out of 18.
Working on set-up for the heat race was a little challenging since we hadn't been to Santa Maria in a year and it felt like I have been out of a seat forever. Used the 10 laps to really get a feel for the car to help make better choices for the main.
For the main we really turned the car around 180 degrees. It was a little on the snug side, but comfortable to drive. Right from the start we made up some positions. Made a few mistakes and had to work to get some spots back. With the changes to the car it made it easy to drive it just about anywhere I needed to on the track to make passes. Started 16th and finished 11th. A real positive night back.
Had a great time racing with my buddy Austin Ervine again after the fun we had last year.
Thanks to my Dad and Tim for working so hard to get the car dialed in.
We are prepped and ready for USAC CRA Sprint Car Series at Perris Auto Speedway this Saturday night. Bring lots of friends and family and kids. They are doing the candy give away on the front straight and you can get up close and personal with drivers and these awesome cars.
I am looking for more seat time. If anyone has a 360 Sprint car or Midget they are looking for a driver message me and lets work something out. Thank you.
