Inside Line Promotions – JONESTOWN, Pa. (July 8, 2019) – Joey Amantea planned for two nights of 600cc micro sprint racing last weekend. However, Mother Nature had other ideas in mind as action at Hamlin Speedway in Hamlin, Pa., rained out on Saturday.

Fortunately, Amantea managed a top 10 on Friday during a winged show at Linda’s Speedway.

Amantea began the night by laying down the fifth fastest lap in practice. With the top five cars in his session all within a tenth of a second in terms of speed, he said he felt confident about his chances.

Good fortune put him on the pole position for his heat race and he jumped out to the early lead, remaining in first for the entire distance. With the top-six drivers redrawing for starting position, Amantea pulled the No. 4 pill, placing him fourth on the starting grid.

“We came out of the box extremely fast and the car was just on rails from the get-go,” he said. “We got the early jump in the heat race and set ourselves up for what looked to be a successful night.”

Prior to the feature event, Amantea and his team decided to try a new setup and guessed that a loose race car would be the best bet for a track that had been hampered by rain earlier in the day. However, with high temperatures and sunlight drying the track out, their bet didn’t pay off.

Amantea did all he could to hang onto the car and judged that by Lap 10 the grip in his tires was gone. He couldn’t capitalize on the good starting position and ended up falling to a seventh-place finish.

“We figured we would try something new to make the car looser and the track conditions really changed a ton to what we thought they’d be like,” he said. “The track was really hard compared to earlier in the day when there were almost puddles out there. We should’ve changed tires before the feature and ultimately we were just wrong about a lot.”

This week will be a three-race week for Amantea with plans to race Wednesday at Action Track USA in Kutztown, Pa.; Friday at Linda’s Speedway; and Saturday at Hamlin Speedway. All races will be in the non-wing division.

“We’ve got a lot of racing on tap this week so hopefully Mother Nature wants to play nice,” Amantea said. “We haven’t had the best of luck at Action Track this year so I’m hopeful for a change of fortune there. A good run there would do a lot for our momentum heading into the weekend so I’m optimistic.”
