Inside Line Promotions – JOLIET, Ill. (July 2, 2019) – Greg Wilson recorded a seventh-place result last Saturday at The Dirt Oval at Route 66, marking his sixth top 10 of the season with the Ollie’s Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions.

The weekend got off to a wet start as Friday’s event at Jacksonville Speedway in Jacksonville, Ill., rained out. Saturday’s show had a slow pace as wet weather made for a tricky track.

Wilson qualified fifth quickest in his group, missing the heat race inversion by only one position. However, he rallied from fifth to third place in the heat race to lock his Hercules Tires, DNC Hydraulics, Ohio Logistics and Gear Off Road sponsored team into the 13th starting position for the A Main.

“To be honest we weren’t really all that good,” he said. “I had some stuff I wanted to try. I tried it in the past and was thinking maybe some things changed. In the feature it just didn’t do what it should have done. I feel like it’s from a lack of not racing. We went to Jacksonville on Friday with a zero percent chance of rain and it rains out. For Saturday’s feature we put a big left rear tire on and that’s not something I’d normally do. On restarts I could go to the bottom and the middle and clear guys, but I needed to get back up. The curb was really tall. After four or five laps when people would build momentum up that was where you had to run. I tried to get up there and couldn’t make the corner well. We had a couple of restarts at the end that really helped. We were really good on restarts. As the race went on I made some poor choices and the car wasn’t good, but when it was all said and done we had a nice run in a situation we probably shouldn’t have run as well as we did.”

Wilson made most of his progress toward the end of the race to place seventh. He remains ranked sixth in the All Star championship standings.

Next up is an All Star doubleheader this Friday at Lernerville Speedway in Sarver, Pa., and Saturday at Sharon Speedway in Hartford, Ohio, for the Lou Blaney Memorial.

“I’m excited because those are really good race tracks,” he said. “I haven’t been to Sharon since they changed the clay and everybody loves it. We’re changing some car stuff around. It could be a learning weekend. I wanted to do some of the things we’re doing before we get to the Brad Doty Classic and the Kings Royal. Now is the time if you’re going to change something instead of diving in during the biggest race week of the year.”
