Inside Line Promotions – ELMA, Wash. (July 2, 2019) – Jordon Mallett rebounded from a tough stretch at Skagit Speedway during his Washington debut to produce a fourth-place finish and a 13th-place run during two nights of racing in the Fred Brownfield Classic last weekend at Grays Harbor Raceway.

Friday night began with the Greenbrier, Ark., native lining up second in his Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour heat race and moving forward to capture the checkered flag in the heat race. As a result of qualifying among the top 16 in passing points, Mallett started from the fourth position in the A Main.

He was able to maneuver through traffic and the competition to reach as high as second and he also fell as low as fifth before ending up in the fourth finishing position.

“We were really good Friday night and we were able to take advantage of a good starting spot in the heat to set us up for the feature,” he said. “We took what we learned in the heat race and made a few changes and I feel like we had a car that could’ve won the race. We needed a few more green flag laps to really have a shot, but overall it was a great night.”

Mallett came back on Saturday hoping for similar results. Unfortunately, he ended up starting sixth in a heat race and was only able to move up to the fourth position. After he obtained enough passing points to lock himself into the A Main in the 11th starting position, Mallett battled changing track conditions throughout the feature and ended up 13th.

“Everything we thought we learned Friday really went out the window Saturday,” he said. “It was a hard track to pass on and when you start as far back as we did in both the heat and the feature, you’ve really got your work cut out for you to find places to move forward. So I wasn’t surprised with the outcome.”

The ASCS National Tour is off this weekend before heading to Montana the following weekend for the Grizzly Nationals at Gallatin Speedway in Belgrade, Mont. Mallett said the team may attempt to run a local show in Montana, but also may just enjoy the holiday weekend as spectators.

“We’re going to head out to Montana and kind of play things by ear and what we do this weekend,” he said. “In the last two weeks we’ve experienced both ends of the spectrum in that we didn’t make the A Main all weekend at Skagit in what I thought was a top-10 race car and we brought home a top five at a track I’d never seen before in Grays Harbor.

“So maybe we just take a breather this weekend or maybe we go out and try our hand against some locals. Either way, I like the direction we’re headed and I’m happy with the results.”
