Inside Line Promotions – PUEBLO, Colo. (July 2, 2019) – Though last weekend started a little rough, it ended on a high note for Zac Taylor.

Taylor drove to a second-place finish in both a midget and a non-wing sprint car on Saturday at Honor Speedway. It came on the heels of a sprint car race at Lincoln County Raceway in North Platte, Neb., on Friday.

“We won the heat and started third in the feature and I was right there with the leaders when we had a caution,” he said. “I looked down and the car was on fire. I got out and had to run to the safety people and they finally sprayed me down. My legs were on fire. I really think the tracks need to train their emergency crews a little better. I had to yell at them to spray me down. They argued with me that I wasn’t on fire. You can’t see alcohol burn and they took forever to get to my car. My suit is ruined and I had just a little bit of radiant burn on my foot. We had just put this car together and somehow the hose that goes into the filter vibrated loose.”

The next night went smoother as Taylor drove the family non-wing sprint car with the POWRi Lucas Oil Warrior Sprint Series and Todd Henry’s midget with the POWRi Lucas Oil Rocky Mountain Midget Racing Association
In the midget, Taylor charged from fourth to a heat race win and he rolled off seventh in the feature.

“Todd made some adjustments and the car was on a rail,” he said. “I went to the bottom and was picking off cars and got to the leader. He made some mistakes and with two laps to go I got under him. Someone got into the mud on the bottom and threw water on the track. I got into it on the last lap and he got around me so I ended up second. It was a really fun race.”

Taylor scored another heat win and started second in the feature during sprint car competition.

“The bottom was so much more hooked up and the leader kept hitting the mud hole and throwing it up on the track,” he said. “Another guy got a hold of that and drove by and I ended up second again.

“We are figuring out stuff with the sprint car and I can run through the slick and still be fast.”

Taylor will compete this Friday and Saturday in the 4th annual Midget Round Up at Airport Raceway in Garden City, Kan., with the POWRi Lucas Oil West Midget Series and the POWRi Lucas Oil RMMRA Series. He is currently second in the RMMRA championship standings.
