Inside Line Promotions – ORANGEVILLE, Pa. (July 2, 2019) – Joey Amantea brought home fourth-place finishes in both winged and non-wing micro sprint action last Saturday at Greenwood Valley Action Tracks.
The weekend began on Friday night with non-wing competition at Linda’s Speedway in Jonestown, Pa., where Amantea started a heat race from the third position and gained one spot to finish second. Following a redraw as a result of finishing in the top six in the heat race, Amantea started the main event 12th and ended up losing a position to finish 13th.
“We missed the setup by a ton and we just were not very good at all Friday night,” he said. “We’ve been pretty good at Linda’s this year so it was a disappointing night. But overall it could have been worse.”
Everything improved on Saturday when Amantea and his team traveled to the Greenwood Valley Action Tracks for a night of double duty in both the winged and non-wing divisions.
Amantea lined up in the third starting position of his winged heat race before dropping back and finishing sixth. As a result, he started deep in the feature in the 18th position before rebounding for a fourth-place finish.
The team discovered a tire malfunction in non-wing practice, which cost them valuable practice time. Amantea began his heat race from the fourth starting position and dropped to fifth. As a result, he lined up in the 10th position for the feature. Yet a solid run earned the Hard Charger Award after he scored another fourth-place finish.
“We started off the night with an issue with the tire and it put us behind from the get-go,” he said. “In the winged car, we really didn’t read the track very well and we were just kind of throwing whatever we could at a setup after heat race action.
“But come feature-time the car was on a rail in both wingless and winged racing. I think with a few more laps we could’ve maybe had something for the leaders in wingless action. But I can’t be too upset with two top-five finishes.”
Amantea will return to Linda’s Speedway in search of victory on Friday night and then head to Hamlin Speedway in Hamlin, Pa., on Saturday.
“We have fast cars and I think a reasonable expectation would be a couple top fives or top 10s,” he said. “We’ve got to be better in heat race action. But as long as we keep moving forward I’m happy.”
