Inside Line Promotions – SWEDESBORO, N.J. (June 25, 2019) – Joey Amantea captured a fourth-place finish and a 12th-place result during two nights of racing last weekend.
Amantea began his weekend on Friday night at Linda's Speedway in Jonestown, Pa., where he started on the pole during his heat race and fell to third place at the completion of the race. The finish put him on the outside of the third row for the feature. He was able to gain two positions and bring home a solid fourth-place outing, marking his eighth top five of the season.
"It rained pretty hard just before racing activities started and it really created tough conditions on the track during the heat race," he said. "It was really rough on the bottom so starting first really hurt us. By time I could get to the top of the track I had fallen to third, so we made do with what the track gave us.
"In the feature we had worked ourselves up to third and we battled with the second-place guy for several laps. By time we got around him, I left an opening for two guys to get by us. But coming home with a top five and gaining on that first win (at Linda’s Speedway) is a solid reward for us."
Amantea visited Spirit Auto Center Speedway for the first time ever on Saturday. After timed warm-ups in which the top six in each group qualified, Amantea put himself in the fourth position. That rewarded him with the 10th position on the starting grid for the A Main.
Unfortunately, the left front shock came off on Lap 1 of the feature, making the car hard to control. This forced Amantea to get off the gas earlier than the rest of the field on the straightaways to be able to use the bottom of the speedway in the turns. He salvaged a 12th-place result.
"With the track conditions, you really wanted to be hugging the bottom of the speedway and the shock issue just didn't really allow that without giving up speed on the straights," he said. "I think we had likely a top-five car, but given the issue and it being our first visit there, we'll take 12th."
Next week Amantea will return to the Linda's Speedway on Friday in search of a coveted first win before he makes a trip to Greenwood Valley Action Tracks in Orangeville, Pa., on Saturday to run in the Firecracker 500.
"I feel like this weekend is going to be a good weekend for us,” he said. “There is some extra money on the line at Greenwood and I think we've put ourselves in position as a team to start knocking off top fives after a rough start to the year."
