CG Motorsports- Glenpool, Ok. (June 13th, 2019) Matt Covington heads northwest after a sub-par ASCS National Sizzlin’ Summer Speedweek.
Covington demonstrated speed but was also hampered by some self-inflected wounds. Matt achieved one top-10 finished, coupled with a 15th and 11th place finishes during the annual summer speedweek that was shorten to just three events after rain-outs.
“It was a disappointing speedweek,” stated Matt. “The car was fast all week and we were competitive, but we had nothing to show for it. I thought we had a shot to close out the week strong at Salina with our starting spot for the feature, but we missed the setup and fell backwards before getting in an incident that we had to fight through to come home 11th. We struggled early in the week the first night at Devil’s Bowl. Due to some mid-race circumstances, the result was a 15th place finish and DNF, burying us in speedweek points. At Lawton, we were ok and worked forward, but only managed to drive up to 8th. I need to thank Mike and Jerry for all their hard work and late nights during speedweek. It wouldn’t have been possible without them. With the points situation and the way everything has went lately, our goal is to just run up front, go for the wins, get back some consistency, and not worry about the rest or points.”
Up next with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series is Aberdeen, S.D. at Brown County Speedway on Friday, June 14th and Rapid City, S.D. on Saturday, June 15th at Black Hills Speedway.
