Inside Line Promotions – HOLYOKE, Colo. (June 13, 2019) – A third-place finish at Phillips County Raceway last Sunday has Zac Taylor sitting second in the POWRi Lucas Oil Rocky Mountain Midget Racing Association championship standings.

“It was a huge learning race for me,” he said. “It was the first time I’ve raced a midget on a rubbered up track. We started 12th and before I went out Todd (Henry, the car owner) told me if the car doesn’t feel right start turning this knob. Well the car rolled over on the right rear and just didn’t feel right at the start. So I made an adjustment to the shocks and it was really good for five or six laps. Then it started to roll over on the right rear again so I had to readjust.”

Taylor said he worked his way to ninth and that’s where he ran for the first 15 laps of the race.

“We had a caution with about five laps to go and I could see most of the guys had used up their tires except the top two,” he said. “When the green came back out they couldn’t hold their lines and I had fresher tires and capitalized. I was able to pick them off and ended up third.”

Taylor was also supposed to race his non-wing sprint car with the POWRi Lucas Oil Warrior Sprint Series, but only three cars showed up so they put an exhibition race on and he won for his third triumph of the season.

Taylor will take the coming weekend off before racing with the POWRi Lucas Oil Warrior Sprint Series on June 22 at El Paso County Raceway in Calhan, Colo. He finished fifth there last month.
