Mark Lloyd Memorial brings the LMSS to Park Jefferson

This Saturday marks the return of the Late Model Street Stocks and Park Jefferson Speedway presents the 4th annual Mark Lloyd Memorial Race. This race sees the return of the popular Street Stock division which competed at the track from 1986 thru 2001. Drivers from across Southeastern South Dakota and Northwest Iowa will be on hand to compete in this exciting event. The Lloyd family, along with donations from a number of sponsors, puts together and exciting purse for the event which makes it one of the crown jewels in the LMSS Series calendar. This years Mark Lloyd Memorial event will feature a purse paying $1,000 to win and $200 to start.
With last year’s event being moved to Nobles County Speedway in Worthington after a rain out, fans and drivers are excited to see the LMSS return.

Joining the program will be a full night of IMCA racing with many of the point battles getting very tight. The IMCA Artworks Graphics Modifieds see Jefferson’s own Todd Boulware at the top of the point standings. Boulware was very strong in the first half of 2018, and is now back for another battle in 2019. Multi time champion Bob Moore sits in second, and Racer Ricky Stephan has overcome the loss of his father and crew chief to sit third.

The battle in the Stevenson Sprint Cars is just as exciting. While Brant O’Banion sits in the top spot, he is expected to move to I-90 Speedway when they open which means that newcomer Matt Richards and defending champion Colin Smith sit poised to take the top spot. Behind them sit some newcomers to Park Jefferson in Tim Fricke and Rick Pendergast followed by stock car transfer Aaron Guillaume, who is the first locally based Sioux City sprint car pilot in over 15 years going back to the days of Terry Baker.

Many other divisions see tight point battles as drivers have been dropping into race from around the area. It will be a fun season to watch to see how this year’s points end up. Gates open at 4:30 for competitors and 5:00 for spectators. Hot laps are slated for 6:15 and racing at 7:00. Adult tickets are $13, seniors $10, children 6-16 are $3 and under 6 are free.
