Chico, CA-March 14, 2011-Hard work, persistence and perseverance pay off more times than not in racing. For Kraig Kinser and the Parsons Motorsports team, they have been working extremely hard this season and used some persistence and perseverance after some early trouble in the Mini Gold Cup on Saturday night to rebound and pick up a consistent finish that saw the third generation driver pick up four spots after a late restart to come home just outside of the Top-10.
Kinser began the night by turning in the fifth fastest lap in time trials with a very strong 38-car field in attendance, which put him on the inside of the second row in the first heat race. The native of Bloomington, Indiana fell back to fourth early in the heat before storming past Sammy Swindell to take third. While running third, he spun over the banking in turn four and had to restart at the tail, getting tangled up with another car on the ensuing restart and winding up in the Last Chance Showdown, where he finished fourth to race his way into the main event.
Kraig lined up in the sixth row next to his father in the 35-lap Mini Gold Cup feature. After falling back to 19th early in the going, the native of Bloomington, Indiana steadily worked his way back up at the ¼-mile bullring. He would end up 12th as he continues his first season behind the wheel of the Casey's General Store Maxim with Kistler power under the hood.
Kinser is currently 11th in the World of Outlaws standings, just one point out of the Top-10 through eight of the nearly 70 races in 2011.
Kinser and the Parsons Motorsports team will return to action on Friday, March 18 at Giant Chevrolet Kings Speedway in Hanford, California, followed by a stop on Saturday, March 19 at Groppetti Automotive Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare.
Kraig on the Mini Gold Cup
"We really had to battle our way back after the heat race. Everyone on the team worked very hard and no one gave up and it shows the character of the guys on my crew (Mike Cool, Lester Groves and Mark Angerette Jr.). We'll just keep at it and keep plugging away. The more we race and the more laps we all get together, the better we'll continue to get."
