Inside Line Promotions – LAWRENCEBURG, Ind. (May 29, 2019) – Kerry Madsen highlighted last weekend with a podium finish during the Patriot Nationals finale.
The KI Crossbows backed Big Game Motorsports team kicked off the event at The Dirt Track at Charlotte in Concord, N.C., on Friday. Madsen qualified 13th quickest, placed fifth in a heat race and ended the night 13th in the A Main.
“We haven’t mastered qualifying and it’s killing our nights,” he said. “We made some changes after that. We found a couple of things that were biting us so we feel like we’re cognizant of what we’re needing to be doing.”
Saturday went much better for Madsen as he timed in sixth quickest. A heat race win locked the team into the dash, which Madsen won to garner the pole position for the main event.
“We started on the pole, which wasn’t the preferred line,” he said. “We ran third or fourth the majority of the race. I got in some battles early and gave away some track position. We were coming on really strong and had a nice line going late in the race. I felt like if the race went non-stop who knows, but the yellow came out around Lap 25 and it turned into a tire thing after that. However, it was great to battle up front and get a podium.”
Madsen’s third-place result marked his third podium of the season and first with the World of Outlaws this year.
The holiday weekend wrapped up on Monday at Lawrenceburg Speedway, where Madsen qualified 18th quickest, finished sixth in a heat race and was credited with a 16th-place result in the main event after being involved in a last-lap crash while battling just outside the top 10.
Next up for the team is the COMP Cams Sprint Car World Championship this Thursday through Saturday at Mansfield Motor Speedway in Mansfield, Ohio.
“We want to go there and try to win it,” Madsen said. “We’d like to be a little further along, but we have a body of work the last few weeks. We’re definitely getting better.”
