Inside Line Promotions – CENTER LISLE, N.Y. (May 23, 2019) – Joe Trenca posted his third top 10 in four starts this season during the final night of a Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints doubleheader last Saturday at Thunder Mountain Speedway.
“We weren’t really that good when we unloaded, but we made some changes and got the car a lot better,” he said. “I timed in fourth in my group and had a heck of a heat race with Paulie Colagiovanni. It was a good race.”
Trenca placed second in the heat race to make the feature redraw. The Mucci Motorsports driver pulled the No. 3 to start third in the A Main.
“There was a caution about every five laps,” he said. “I kept starting on the bottom and just couldn’t get rolling. I’d lose a couple of spots each time and before I knew it the race was over. It wasn’t the preferred line to be on the bottom.”
Trenca’s ninth-place run was his best outing at the track since running third in 2016.
The weekend began on Friday at Outlaw Speedway in Dundee, N.Y., where Trenca timed in second quickest in his group. A heat race win earned a bid into the feature redraw. Unfortunately, he pulled the highest number – 12 – to line up on the outside of the sixth row for the main event.
“We ran real good in the heat,” he said. “We were running the fastest laps of the night. Then in the feature we cut a tire running eighth or something like that. It started to go down. I could feel it and I got real tight and went over the track in turn one. If you get off the track there it puts you right in the pits. I couldn’t stop so that ended our night.”
Trenca was credited with a 23rd-place result.
Sunday’s World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series race at Weedsport Speedway in Weedsport, N.Y., rained out.
Trenca will return to action with the Patriot Sprint Tour this Saturday at Fonda Speedway in Fonda, N.Y. His best result at the track was eighth in 2017.
“Fonda is a tough place, but it’s under new management with good guys,” he said. “They’ve made a lot of improvements. I’m excited to see the improvements at the track and with the facility.”
