Inside Line Promotions – LAKE ODESSA, Mich. (May 21, 2019) – Roger Crockett ranks fourth in the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour championship standings despite a frustrating weekend in Michigan.

Crockett made his debut in the state on Friday during the opening night of a doubleheader hosted by I-96 Speedway. Unfortunately, a miscue on the setup prior to the heat race put the team behind from the start.

“The first night I got sidetracked and didn’t adjust my right rear shock,” he said. “I was in the middle of doing it and someone came up to talk to me. I flat got sidetracked and didn’t get back to it. Ultimately it ruined our weekend in a sense because it put us behind the eight ball so bad. We were terrible in the heat race. It made the car extremely unpredictable. We backed up instead of moving forward.”

A seventh-place result in the heat race relegated Crockett to a B Main. However, a charge from eighth to third place garnered a transfer into the main event. Crockett capped the night by rallying from 22nd to 13th in the main event despite being involved in an early crash.

“We started at the tail and that’s why we got in that wreck,” he said. “It messed up our top wing and bent the right rear wheel. It didn’t affect the handling too bad, other than the wing had a big hole in it. With the way our night was going we decided to patch the wing up rather than put a new one on.”

The nine positions gained marked the third-most cars passed in the main event.

The weekend wrapped up on Saturday. Crockett rallied from sixth to third place in a heat race to start the action.

“We ran the fastest time in hot laps and the car felt really good,” he said. “On the first start in our heat race we came out second, but the next start didn’t quite go as good. We came out in third and maintained. In the qualifier I wasn’t aggressive enough, waiting too long to hit the bottom. We needed to get to second or third to start good in the feature.”

Crockett placed fourth in the qualifier and he ranked ninth in points to line up on the inside of the fifth row for the main event.

“In the A Main we got the car a little too tight and struggled early,” he said. “We lost a few spots on Lap 1. We ran around there for awhile. We ended up getting lapped with six laps to go, but we hung with Sam (Hafertepe Jr.) the rest of the race. That’s the frustrating part knowing the speed of our car.”

Crockett’s 10th-place result marked his third top 10 in four ASCS National Tour races this season.

He is slated to return to action with the series this Saturday and Sunday at Lake Ozark Speedway in Eldon, Mo.

“I really like the place,” he said. “We’ve had a couple of good runs there. I know our car is fast. I just need to do a better job. It’s hard because everybody is so aggressive. Unfortunately, you have to have less regard for people than racing used to be. Making people let off the gas is the name of the game.”
