Inside Line Promotions – LAKE ODESSA, Mich. (May 21, 2019) – Misfortune brought a sudden end to a pair of promising nights for Alex Hill last weekend at I-96 Speedway during the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour debut at the oval.

Hill’s night ended in turn four during the A Main each night when she was caught up in miscues by other drivers.

On Friday, she started 13th in the main event and quickly moved forward.

“I had a good start and passed several cars on the first lap,” she said. “We were fast and I felt we had a top-10 car. But later in the race, when we were exiting turn four, someone ahead of us spun out and then someone else got sideways and it ended up being a big pileup. I had nowhere to go. I hit Jamie Ball and we both flipped. Our car was torn up pretty bad and we had to go to our backup car the next night.”

Hill posted solid runs earlier in the evening, finishing second in her heat race and fourth in her qualifier.

“Even though it was our first time at the track, Daryl had the car set up good and we were fast right away,” she said. “I think we’re getting better on our starts, slowly but surely. We ran the bottom most of the weekend and we seemed to be able to run better there than most of the others.”

Hill placed second in a heat race and sixth in a qualifier before she won the B Main on Saturday night. She started 17th in the A Main when a similar situation occurred again in turn four.

“It was just like the night before,” she said. “A guy spun out in the same exact spot and I had nowhere to go. But this time it was just the two of us and I didn’t go over, although I came close. That wreck did a lot of damage to the car, too. It was especially frustrating because we’ve been running better lately. But that’s racing.”

In spite of her poor luck, Hill hopes to return to I-96 Speedway again.

“Pretty much everything went well for us there, except for the A Mains,” she said. “I really liked the track. I hope we can race there next year.”

Next up for Hill and the ASCS National Tour will be a doubleheader at Lake Ozark Speedway in Eldon, Mo., this Saturday and Sunday.

“I’m looking forward to going back there to race,” she said. “We raced there for the first time last year. It will be nice to go to a track we’ve been to before since the last several tracks have been new to us.”
