The 3rd annual Turner Plumbing night at Park Jefferson is in the books, and what a race night it was. With 133 racing teams entered for competition, drivers were greeted with a smooth, glassy surface that saw drivers able to run multiple lines around the track for success. With a number of rainouts around the area, a unique mix of local drivers and outside invaders vying for the checkers.
In the Artworks Graphics Modifieds, it was Shane Demey take the 20 lap feature event. Demey, who has called Park Jeff his Saturday home in recent years, took advantage of the front row starting spot to steal away to a popular victory. Demey has been racing around the upper Midwest all season at various tracks, was able to use his slick track performance to pick up the win before rain showers invaded. Bob Moore came from the 3rd row to finish second and Chris Abelson and Jay Noteboom both put on a show from row 6 to finish third and fourth respectively. Heat winners were Abelson, Moore and the veteran Jim Cole.
The Stevenson Hardware IMCA Sprint Cars saw a similar result, with The Combine Dusty Ballenger stealing away from his front row starting spot to pick up the victory. It was Nebraska’s Stu Snyder who put in an exciting performance from row 6 to finish runner up and Kaleb Johnson in third. Heat race wins went to Matt Richards, Ballenger and Eagle native Tyler Drueke.
The J&J Fitting Stock Cars saw Greg Taylor pick up the feature win over the 20 car strong field. Taylor was able to get to the front of the field and hold off against the challenges of Bo Lundquist and 2018 champion Jason Ward. Taylor has been getting stronger every week at Park Jefferson going back to 2017 and is proving to be a force in the division. Heat race winners were Taylor, Brad Jones and Travis Barker.
The IMCA Sport Modifieds were won by Cody Thompson. Thompson took his Maaske Motorsports 25 and rolled the track to perfection. Unfortunately a number of drivers behind him struggled with the slick track surface which resulted in track officials having to invoke the time limit for the division as drivers were unable to complete laps without cautions. Thompson won the shortened event over Kole Nordquist and John Foreman. Picking up the heat wins were Foreman, Thompson and young gun Cade Richards.
The IMCA Hobby Stocks saw veteran Craig Clift guide the blue 77 to victory lane for another checkered flag. Clift got the jump on the field at the start and once he found the top side, would not relinquish the lead despite challenges from a pack of drivers. Second place went to ever improving Zac Ankrum who has found a lot of speed this year as has third place Jeremy Smith. Heats went to Clift, Smith and Nick Schilling.
The IMCA Sport Compacts were won by division king Andrew Harris, who once again showed his mastery around the Park Jefferson oval. Harris won over Jared Gross and Brian Long in an event which saw a number of cars banging on some challenging track conditions. Heats went to Austin Honeycutt, Harris and Long.
Racing resumes this weekend as the Park Jefferson Speedway presents to night of racing. Friday night features the SLMR series along with non-sanctioned stock cars, sport modifieds and sport compacts. On Saturday the 4th annual Memorial Clash will see the $1,000 to win IMCA Fast Shaft Modified qualifier, $1,000 to win Nebraska 360’s vs MSTS and a full night of IMCA racing in the other divisions.
