MARION, ILL. (May 19, 2019) – Topping a stunning field of 68 entries on Saturday night, Jordan Herrman of Jay, Oklahoma scored the “Southern Illinois Shootout” triumph at the Southern Illinois Raceway. Driving the CTE Motorsports, CS9 Chassis No. 92, the victory marked Herrman’s first-career win with the POWRi Engler Machine & Tool Outlaw Micro League.
After the staggering and stout entry list was chopped down from 68 to 23 via nine heat races, two C-Mains and two B-Mains, it was Herrman and Aaron Andruskevitch leading the field to the green flag in the 20-lap main event.
Throughout the duration of the feature, all eyes were locked on Andruskevitch and Herrman as they dueled for the top spot. Taking their battle into lap traffic, a bobble from Andruskevitch was just enough for Herrman to sneak by and from there, it was all about defense.
“When we got to lap traffic and he got bunched, I knew we were in the prime position,” said Herrman after his first-career win. “Even on that final restart I was a little worried because I thought he was better than me, but I just drove as hard as I possibly could that last little bit to hold on.”
Herrman’s lap traffic fortune coupled with his relentless attitude led to a masterful final run as he checked out from Andruskevitch and the rest of the field while treacherously working the fine line on the thick SIR cushion. He would hang on for an impressive first-career victory with the POWRi Engler Machine & Tool Outlaw Micros.
“I got the car a little too tight, which was good at the beginning, but I started missing my line and kept messing up as the race went on,” noted second-place finisher Andruskevitch. “But this is the first time we’ve had the PMP here and by far the best we’ve ran at SIR. We made some wrong adjustments and fought the curb too hard and it cost us.”
“I was chasing the setup all night tonight,” said Jake Palmisano in third. “This was one hell of a track though. I’ll take it, running up front behind these two up is always something to smile about.”
Rounding out the top five behind winner Jordan Herrman, second-place Aaron Andruskevitch, and third-place Jake Palmisano, was Riley Goodno of Knoxville, Iowa in fourth-place and Gunner Ramey of Sedalia, Missouri in fifth-place. Closing out the top ten at Southern Illinois Raceway was Kaylee Bryson in sixth, Joe B. Miller in seventh, Ryan Timms in eighth, Jaxon Bishop in ninth and Delaney Jost in tenth.
The POWRi Engler Machine & Tool Outlaw Micro League returns to action next weekend with a doubleheader at Sweet Springs Motorsports Complex in Sweet Springs, Missouri on Friday and Saturday, May 24-25.
