Inside Line Promotions – ALGER, Wash. (May 16, 2019) – Tyler Thompson captured his first feature victory of the season last Saturday during his debut at Skagit Speedway.

Thompson led the final 11 laps of the 25-lap main event at the oval while making his driving debut for Roger Oudman in the sportsman sprints division.

“I didn’t really know anything about the track,” Thompson said. “I didn’t know where to get on and get off the track. In hot laps we were decent, but we didn’t know what to do for qualifying. We ended up going second quick and that really set us up for the night.”

Thompson followed the strong qualifying performance by advancing from fourth to third place in a heat race. The feature inversion was six, which lined him up on the inside of the third row.

“We changed some things and really got the car closer,” he said. “We got up to second by Lap 8 or Lap 9. We started on the bottom the first eight laps and moved up to the top once we got to second. We were reeling in the leader and got within a couple of car lengths. The leader got into the back of a lapped car and spun and caused a yellow. We led the rest of the race.”

Thompson took over the top spot just after the midpoint of the race and he rode the top groove to his 14th career sprint car win at the fourth different track.

“It was definitely a new experience,” he said. “I didn’t know if a car was going to throw a slider on me because I was running the top or if the bottom would come in. I just tried to stay mistake free and run my race.

“I want to thank Roger and his team for the opportunity. It was a great night.”

Thompson is scheduled to return to his sprint car this Friday at Cottage Grove Speedway in Cottage Grove, Ore., and Saturday at Coos Bay Speedway in Coos Bay, Ore., with the Interstate Sprint Car Series.
