TORRANCE, CALIF. (May 14, 2019) The POWRi Lucas Oil California Lightning Sprint Car Series will make its second of three 2019 appearances at the Barona Speedway this Saturday night, May 18th. Gates will open at noon and the first race will get the green flag at 5:00.
Coming off his second win of the 2019 campaign at Ventura two weeks ago, Barona local Jarrett Kramer of Spring Valley brings a 61-point lead into the sixth race of the season. Five-time series champion Bobby Michnowicz of Lomita is second. Kingsburg’s Doug Nunes is third and is a mere five points behind Michnowicz. Eric Greco of Palmdale and Camarillo resident Cody Nigh round out the top five.
In 2018, the CLS returned to Barona for the first time in a decade. Nigh scored his first ever CLS win at the San Diego County dirt oval a year ago this weekend. Michnowicz won the second race back at the track on August 25th. At the final CLS race at Barona in 2018 in October, Gardena’s Dominic Del Monte, who will turn 16-years-old two days after Saturday’s race, bagged his initial CLS win.
In the CLS first appearance at Barona this year, Nunes scorched the field for his second win of the season on April 6th. Kramer placed second with NASCAR Truck Series regular Sheldon Creed, Michnowicz and Del Monte finishing third through fifth respectively.
In addition to the CLS, the IMCA Modifieds, Street Stocks, Pony Stocks, Pure Stocks, Nomad Dwarfs, 360 Sprint Cars, So Cal Mowers, Mini Dwarfs and Junior Sprints will also be in action.
