Inside Line Promotions – WOODHULL, N.Y. (May 14, 2019) – Joe Trenca charged to a career-best result at Woodhull Raceway last Saturday.
The fourth-place finish for the Mucci Motorsports driver also marked the first time in his sprint car career that he has garnered back-to-back top fives to start a season.
“It feels good,” he said. “It goes back to the offseason of scaling down and really focusing on making ourselves better, but sticking to our baseline. I think I’m driving harder and smarter than I ever have. A lot of it is we’re scaling back so we have more time to think about it and prepare for each race.”
Trenca kicked off the Patriot Sprint Tour event by advancing from fifth to fourth place in a heat race. He then finished where he started – fourth – in the dash to line up on the outside of the sixth row for the A Main.
“We tried a few things and got onto something that we liked,” he said. “We kept chipping away and come feature-time we were really good. I went around the top of everybody. I don’t know what it is about New York, but everybody runs the bottom. We had a lot of cautions so it was tough to get rolling. My crew guy was signaling to rip the top. We did that and we started picking off cars pretty quickly. I wish we found it earlier. We passed for fourth on the last corner.”
Trenca capped the night with a fourth-place outing.
He is slated for a busy three-race weekend beginning with Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints races on Friday at Outlaw Speedway in Dundee, N.Y., and Saturday at Thunder Mountain Speedway in Center Lisle, N.Y. The weekend wraps up on Sunday at Weedsport Speedway in Weedsport, N.Y., during the Empire State Challenge with the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series.
“I’m excited to go to two of my favorite tracks in the 360 and we get to run with the Outlaws on Sunday,” he said. “The whole family comes out to support us with it being so close to home. It should be a great weekend.”
