Saturday night at the Copper on Dirt finale, Shane Stewart raced passed Jack Dover late in the feature to put his Paul Silva Motorsports ROCKSTAR/MAKITA/A.R.T. No.57 in victory lane for the first time in 2011.
Stewart was locked into the 30-lap main event by way of his third place finish and Friday night and lined his Lucas Oil Products/Finley Farms/Cross Creek Trucking mount up in the fifth position.
As the green flag waved on the event, Stewart quickly began working on Aaron Reutzel as the caution flew on the second lap. When the action resumed, Stewart was able to put his Palmero Properties/Pro Bilt Construction/Wesmar powered sprinter on the bottom of the speedway to slip past Reutzel on the 7th lap to grab fourth.
As lapped traffic began to surface for the lead pack, Shane was able to get around the slower cars as he utilized the high side of the speedway to pressure Tim Crawley and Jeff Swindell.
As Stewart pressured the duo for second and third, it was on the 16th lap the ROCKSTAR/MAKITA sprinter dove to the bottom of the speedway to get past both drivers to take over the second position.
As Dover continued to set a quick pace out front on the bottom side of the track, Stewart continued to get through traffic by railing the high side, and closed up on Dover’s sizeable lead.
With 10 laps to go, Shane was all over Dover who too had moved to the top of the speedway and the duo put on a ‘hair-raising’ exhibition for the next three laps, until Shane was able to take the lead on a wild high side pass on lap 23.
A caution on lap 27 put Dover on the bumper of the Paul Silva owned No.57, but Shane was able to motor away from the field to pick up his first win of 2011.
“We have been really fast all year and it feels great to get in victory lane in 2011 with ROCKSTAR/MAKITA/Lucas Oil and all our great sponsors,” said an excited Stewart. “Paul and my guys give me a great car, and the A.R.T. chassis is awesome!”
Shane and his Silva Motorsports team will take their point lead into Devils Bowl Speedway for the next round of Lucas Oil ASCS National competition on March 25-26.
