Inside Line Promotions – BENTON RIDGE, Ohio (May 7, 2019) – One of Greg Wilson’s favorite tracks is on tap this weekend.
Wilson and his Hercules Tires, DNC Hydraulics, Ohio Logistics and Gear Off Road sponsored team are heading to Eldora Speedway near Rossburg, Ohio, on Friday and Saturday for a World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series event.
“I’m excited, especially since the weather is looking good and we haven’t raced in a while,” he said. “I’m skeptical because we’ve changed a lot of stuff with our race car and have had to basically look at it for two weeks. We usually have a good program at Eldora where we’re competitive. It’s always good to go to a place you’re familiar with when you’ve made changes.”
Wilson won a World of Outlaws race at Eldora Speedway in 2015. He has also scored a trio of Ollie’s Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions victories along with nine career 360ci winged sprint car triumphs at the track.
“Growing up that’s always had a special place,” he said. “When I went to races as a kid at Eldora I guess that’s what made me want to drive sprint cars. It’s in our backyard so we always have a lot of people show up. That also makes it fun.”
Wilson charged from 23rd to third last September during his most recent race at Eldora Speedway. He also powered from 21st to 13th during the Kings Royal and rallied from 14th to second during the Knight Before the Kings Royal last season.
“We have to put ourselves in position at the beginning of the night,” he said. “When the track does get wide as long as one area isn’t dominant I feel we’re as good as anybody. We’ve been competitive through the middle, competitive around the top and really good around the bottom. If there’s multi grooves we’re as good as anybody.”
Last weekend’s All Star races at Lernerville Speedway in Sarver, Pa., and at Sharon Speedway in Hartford, Ohio, both rained out. The last six All Star races and seven of the last eight points races have rained out this season.
