Inside Line Promotions – CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. (May 6, 2019) – Joe Trenca produced a top-five finish during his season-opening race last Saturday.
The Mucci Motorsports driver powered to a career-best fourth-place result during a Patriot Sprint Tour show at Land of Legends Raceway.
“It felt real good,” he said. “We weren’t entirely happy with fourth, but it’s still a good result.”
The night began with a third-place run in a heat race. Trenca then maneuvered from fourth to second place in the dash to line up on the outside of the fifth row in the main event.
“We went from 10th to fifth right away,” he said. “I went over the cushion. They were halfway toward it. It was either going to put it into the trees or put us into a better position. I ran all over the track all race. We had rain right up until putting heat in the motor so the track was real fast. I could run right through the middle to be just as fast as the guys on the cushion. I was able to maneuver in traffic.”
Trenca’s great start was followed by a couple of positions gained following a mid-race restart.
“There was a red flag for about 25 minutes on Lap 15,” he said. “I was thinking about what I was going to be able to do. On the restart I got right into fourth and then was up to third. Unfortunately, we had a bleeder stick open in the right rear wheel and the tire went flat so we ended up fourth.
“I passed back for third and then he slid me going into turn three on the last lap. I couldn’t get turned down with that tire going down.”
The fourth-place finish marked Trenca’s first career top five at the oval.
Trenca will return to action with the Patriot Sprint Tour this Saturday at Woodhull Raceway in Woodhull, N.Y. He placed 11th at the track during his lone visit last year and his career-best result of seventh came in 2017.
