ROCKSTAR/MAKITA No.57 Charges to Fifth

Saturday night at Giant Chevrolet Kings Speedway in Hanford, California, Shane Stewart stormed through the field from his 23rd starting position to capture a fifth place finish.

The night got off to a rough start for the ROCKSTAR/MAKITA/A.R.T. No.57. In heat race action while battling for the third position, Shane fell victim to a rut in turns three and four and sent his Silva Motorsports entry upside down. The damage took Shane out of the rest of the race and put him in the B-main where he started in the 16th position.

The B-Main only had one stoppage, but Shane was able to work the Finley Farms/Cross Creek Trucking/Lucas Oil Products through the field toward that ever important top six finish to transfer to the feature.

On a restart on the ninth circuit, Stewart lined up in the seventh position behind Tommy Tarlton with three laps to break into a transfer position. As the event resumed Stewart and Tarlton battled each other back and forth for the transfer position. As the white flag flew, Shane went for a slide job to steal the sixth spot heading into the third turn, but Tarlton was able to get back under Shane and narrowly beat the Palmero Properties/Pro Bilt Construction sprinter back to the line.

After electing to utilize a provisional for the 30-lap feature event, Shane lined his Paul Silva owned mount up in the 23rd position. As the feature went green, Shane began to rapidly work his way to the front of the pack.

As the race slowed on the fourth circuit, the ROCKSTAR/MAKITA/A.R.T car was up to the 12th position, after battling Brady Bacon, Steven Tiner, and Tommy Tarlton early. As the race resumed Stewart then went to work on Seth Bergman and Johnny Herrera as he cracked the top 10.

On the 17th lap, after getting around Jeff Swindell, Shane was up to eigth and continued to race with Bergman and Herrera as the three of them every inch of the racing surface. On a lap 20 restart, Shane was in the seventh position, and was able to grab sixth from Trey Starks, and began reeling in Tim Crawley for the fifth position. Coming out of turn four, Shane was able to use a daring high side move to clear Crawley and grab fifth.

Over the next five laps, The Paul Silva prepared mount began to again pressure Herrera, but this time for fourth. As the white flag flew, Shane came up right on the rear bumper of him, but narrowly missed the fourth spot at the stripe and grabbed fifth.
“It’s not the kind of night we would have hoped for, but I’m glad we were able to rebound and grab a top five tonite,” said Shane. “We’ll head to Tucson next week and work on getting this ROCKSTAR/MAKITA/A.R.T. in victory lane.”
