Inside Line Promotions – PETALUMA, Calif. (April 23, 2019) – Chase Johnson was dominant last Saturday night at his home track of Petaluma Speedway, where he was victorious by more than 10 seconds.
“We were strong every time we hit the track,” he said. “We were fast from the time we unloaded. We had a great car all night and we got everything we could when we were on the track.”
Johnson guided his family owned No. 24 to the second quickest qualifying time before he maneuvered from fourth to second place in a heat race. The feature redraw lined Johnson up on the outside of the front row for the A Main.
“It was a little tough to get started,” he said. “There were quite a few yellows at the beginning. I’d say the first 10 laps we were struggling with cautions. It felt forever until we got going. I knew we had a fast car and we were in the right position to take the lead and take control of the race.”
Johnson did just that, leading all 25 laps and pulling away as the second half of the race went non-stop. He lapped into the top five.
“I didn’t know who was in what position, but I saw the guys we started up front with,” he said. “We were getting to them in traffic. I didn’t know the scenario, but I knew we were in great shape. It was a good tune-up for this Saturday.”
Johnson will ride the momentum from his fourth win of the season into a return to Petaluma Speedway this Saturday with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour.
