Inside Line Promotions – MESQUITE, Texas (April 17, 2019) – Kraig Kinser produced his first top-five finish of the season last Friday during the Texas Outlaw Nationals at Devil’s Bowl Speedway.

Kinser kicked off the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series event by setting quick time during qualifying for the first time this season.

“That’s the game plan you hope for when you go to the races,” he said. “You want to have a good time. You want to put your best foot forward to give you the best chance every time you hit the track. Qualifying gives you that boost that, ‘Ok, we’ve got a good shot tonight.’”

A runner-up result in a heat race locked Kinser into the dash. He pulled the No. 1 to start on the inside of the front row and he pulled away to capture his first dash triumph of the year, giving him the pole position for the A Main.

“Starting up front in the dash is a nice deal, but once you get in the dash you know you’re starting in the top six so that was a win for us,” he said. “It makes your night a lot easier. The car felt really good. The bottom came in where we hadn’t really been on the bottom all night.”

Kinser led the first three laps before a competitor found more grip on the outside groove, dropping Kinser to second place. He ran in that position for several laps before the bottom of the track began to take rubber, allowing two more racers by before Kinser could return to the inside lane.

“The bottom slowed down a little, but we were a little too free and couldn’t carry speed to the turns,” he said. “It just hurt us when the competition is that close with that many good cars. We were off just a little and that’s all it takes sometimes. I think our lines would have been there if our car was a touch better.”

Kinser ran fourth for the remainder of the feature to garner his best finish of the season.

“Those are the weekends we’re trying to duplicate,” he said. “All in all, it was a positive deal for us. Top fives is what we’re looking for day in and day out. Our progress is good. We just need to keep it up and stay consistent.”

Saturday’s race rained out at Devil’s Bowl Speedway.

The team is off this weekend before resuming World of Outlaws competition April 26 at Lake Ozark Speedway in Eldon, Mo.; April 27 at Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 in Pevely, Mo.; and April 28 at Jacksonville Speedway in Jacksonville, Ill.
