Wilson Making Changes Following Surprising Performance in the Slick During All Star Show at Port Royal

Inside Line Promotions – PORT ROYAL, Pa. (April 17, 2019) – Greg Wilson can’t wait to get back to a race track after what his team learned last weekend.

“I think we found some pretty important stuff,” he said. “My car is laying completely apart to a bare frame. I’m excited to go race. From what we’ve done, right or wrong, it should be a lot different.”

Wilson and his Hercules Tires, DNC Hydraulics, Ohio Logistics and Gear Off Road sponsored team started the Ollie’s Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions season last Thursday at Virginia Motor Speedway in Jamaica, Va.

Wilson qualified fourth quickest in his group before a third-place run in a heat race locked him into the 11th starting position for the main event.

“The track was good wet-wise and because of that it raced like something we’re probably not normally good at,” he said. “The early to midpart of the race we were a top-10 car, but as we burned the fuel load off it changed our car quite a bit and I guess that was the start of knowing we’ve got more issues than what we found previously.”

Wilson battled for a top 10 throughout the first half of the race before fading to a 13th-place result.

“Then we go to Port Royal Speedway and do our normal deal,” he said. “I wish everyone in the country would look at what Port Royal is doing. Every facet of what they are doing, the prepping of the track, how they treat the fans and how they treat the racers, they have a great team over there.”

After Friday’s All Star race rained out at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pa., Wilson ventured to Port Royal Speedway on Saturday. He timed in seventh quickest in his group, but sixth-place results in both a heat race and the B Main left him out of the main event.

“From what I’ve done the last five or six years our car is pretty good when the track gets slick,” he said. “I’m cruising in the B Main in a transfer spot, but I was sitting there and knew we were in trouble.

“As crazy as it may sound, as frustrated with our results at Port Royal because the track was awesome and it’s in our wheelhouse, I feel like it was the best thing that could have happened for the simple fact we have a good program for when it’s slick. I felt like we’ve had some issues as I’ve been saying. The fact that we weren’t very good in a situation we’re normally good at, it changed what we’re looking at. Once Sunday’s race at Bedford Speedway rained out we got home and right to work. Now I’m excited to see if what we think we’ve found makes a big difference.”

Wilson is scheduled to return to action this Friday and Saturday at Attica Raceway Park in Attica, Ohio, with the All Stars.
