Inside Line Promotions – MESQUITE, Texas (April 15, 2019) – It’s hard to dig out of a hole, which is the position Jason Sides was in last Friday at Devil’s Bowl Speedway.

Sides qualified 17th quickest during the opening night of the Texas Outlaw Nationals. With impending weather on the way track conditions were tricky all night.

“If you look at qualifying I think they knew rain was coming so they didn’t put a lot of water on it,” he said. “We were really good in hot laps. We put some tires on and went back out for qualifying and we ended up darn near where we went out. It wasn’t real good, but quick time was one of the first cars and it kept falling off. That put us behind.”

A seventh-place run in a heat race relegated Sides to the Last Chance Showdown. He finished second in the race to transfer into the 20th starting position for the main event.

“It was thundering and lightning,” he said. “We put another pair of used tires on there and 20 gallons of fuel. We didn’t even expect the whole feature to get in. It was spitting rain as we were lining up, but we got it in. We passed a couple of cars just getting underneath them. The track rubbered up pretty heavily all the way through. The biggest part was coming off the corners. It was solid rubber off turn four and halfway down the front straightaway and off turn two halfway down the back straightaway.”

Sides gained four positions – tied for the second-most cars passed – to finish 16th.

Saturday’s finale rained out.

The team will take this weekend off before resuming Outlaws competition April 26 at Lake Ozark Speedway in Eldon, Mo.; April 27 at Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 in Pevely, Mo.; and April 28 at Jacksonville Speedway in Jacksonville, Ill.
