After a long off season, the Turtle team came out like gang busters in the first race of the 2019 season. On a sunny spring day at Mini-Indy, the Shell Shocked Racing Nervo/Baker finished 3rd in his heat race and 5th in the A-main.
Using new equipment in several areas of the race car, Riley drove to 2nd place throughout the first 15 laps. In the last five laps, he was passed and then continued to hold onto 3rd as he took the checkers in the season's first competition laps.
Starting 3rd after the passing points were tabulated from the heat race, Turtle was aware of what was beneath him. Rolling off towards the start, his was prepared for the 40 lap feature race. Up and down the chart while the laps ticked away, he was hanging with the front runners until he spun out on his own while trying to gain a position. Moved to the 8th position after the spin, he battled back to a 5th finishing position.
"With the way were at the beginning of last season, this is almost like a win for us. The new pieces and the studying done by the team during the winter has helped us in this race. Now we just need to continue getting better during our races here at Mini-Indy" stated the excited driver Riley Baldwin
"I couldn't be happier with our driver" stated Handler Kevin Baldwin, "He went out there without a practice lap on all the new parts and pieces and drove the wheels off of it. This shows his determination of wanting to get continue getting better this season and building on the improvements from last season".
After an off weekend, the Turtle team while take to the high-banked oval Mini-Indy track next Saturday, April 20, 2019. Come out and support the team and cheer him to another great run.
