Kaleb Johnson Eagerly Anticipating an Expanded Racing Schedule in 2019

Inside Line Promotions – SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (March 25, 2019) – An expanded schedule that includes a significant increase in 360ci winged sprint car races has given Kaleb Johnson good reason to eagerly anticipate the 2019 racing season.

Johnson plans to compete in more than 40 events this year with competition about evenly split between 305 and 360 sprint car events.

“We’ve been fortunate to draw more sponsorship each year and that’s allowed us to run a lot more 360 shows this season,” said Johnson, who entered three 360 races last year and a similar number the year before. “We’re planning to run the entire Midwest Power Series. It’s a great series with a lot of good-paying shows. We’ll also run some MSTS races.”

Johnson will also compete for the Heartland Steel RaceSaver sprint cars presented by Wyffels Hybrids title at Jackson Motorplex in Jackson, Minn. He won the track championship in 2017.

“We’ll have about six or seven nights where we’ll be double-classing with both cars at Jackson,” the 21-year-old senior at the University of South Dakota said. “We’ll race a couple of times at Eagle and with the Sprint Series of Nebraska. We also plan to go to Belleville again for the 305 Nationals.”

Johnson is coming off another stellar season that produced numerous highlights.

“Winning the Jackson Nationals after starting 15th was a huge night for us,” he said. “Also, picking up our first win at Eagle was big since the competition is so tough there. And then we backed up our win at Eagle with another win the following night at (Clay County Fair Speedway in Spencer, Iowa). That was a great weekend for us.”

While his 360 starts were few, his finishes were solid. Although sidelined in one start due to a mechanical issue, he scored a runner-up finish at Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, Wis., and added a respectable 13th-place finish during his first competition at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa.

Late-season misfortune brought a bit of disappointment when Johnson fell just one point short of the title at Jackson Motorplex after suffering DNFs in his final two races there.

“That was kind of a disappointing end to our season,” he said. “But that’s racing. I feel that we had nothing to be ashamed about.”

There are no finite goals for this season as the team focuses on consistency and improvement.

“We just mainly want to run as many 360 races as possible and try to win the Jackson 305 title,” he said. “I usually tell the guys our goals are to do our best and have fun.”

Johnson is scheduled to kick off his season on April 13 at I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, Neb., after this weekend’s event at Eagle Raceway in Eagle, Neb., was cancelled because of the weather.
