GOODNO GRABS SECOND-CAREER WIN IN TURNPIKE CHALLENGE FINALE

GOODNO GRABS SECOND-CAREER WIN IN TURNPIKE CHALLENGE FINALE

TULSA, OKLA. (March 25, 2019) – Sneaking by Kris Carroll in the midst of thick lap traffic, Knoxville, Iowa’s Riley Goodno rocketed into the race lead on lap 13 of Sunday’s finale of the sixth annual Turnpike Challenge at Port City Raceway and never looked back. Fending off all challengers over the course of several late-race restarts, Goodno held on to score his second-career victory with the POWRi Engler Machine & Tool Outlaw Micro League.

From the drop of the green flag it was Kris Carroll of nearby Verdigris, Oklahoma leading the way aboard his No. 3C machine. Carroll held command throughout the opening half, but as lap traffic came into play the battle for the lead became dicey.

Goodno worked the high side around Carroll to lead the 13th lap and brought a pair of additional competitors with him to make it a four-car fight for the win. In the closing laps, all eyes turned to Goodno and Carroll as they were joined by former league champion, Joe B. Miller, and Saturday’s winner, Kaylee Bryson, forming a blanket to battle for the win.

A handful of restarts in the closing laps hampered the conclusion to the 20-lapper, slowing the action and allowing Goodno to run away without challenge. His second-career victory at Port City Raceway in the Turnpike Challenge finale is followed by his first-career triumph at Valley Speedway from last July.

Brady Bacon, driving for TKH Motorsports of Missouri, returned to his roots at Port City and the Broken Arrow, Oklahoma driver walked away with a second-place effort. Saturday’s POWRi Micro winner at I-44 Riverside Speedway, Kaylee Bryson, rounded out the podium aboard her Sawyer Chassis No. 11B.

Closing out the top ten was Kris Carroll in fourth, Joe B. Miller in fifth, Steven Curbow in sixth, Harley Hollan in seventh, Gunner Bowden in eighth, Frank Flud in ninth and Shawn Wicker in tenth.

“I went to the bottom there after getting the lead and it just seemed to stick,” said Riley Goodno. “I can’t thank my dad and Nathan Benson enough for nailing this setup.”

“It was getting pretty exciting there at the end,” noted Brady Bacon. “This car is really fast, but man it was a handful on the top in turns one and two. It just feels really great to be back at home racing at Port City again.”

“It was a good race, I had a lot of fun throwing sliders there with everybody,” stated Kaylee Bryson.
